Today Teddy had an Easter party at school. I think it's just an excuse for the teachers to hide Easter eggs, & Teddy showed me some that he'd got when we picked him up after school. After eating some of the candy in a few of them, he offered one to his dad, one to me, & then said he was saving the last one for Ms. Kelly, his OT that we see outside of school. Sure enough, he proudly gave her the egg, opened it for her, & even opened the candy that was in it for her! Alan & I were amazed with him & so proud, since this is really the first time he's thought about giving someone else something of his own. He's symbolically given Alan & myself things, but most of the time he knew it would still be around the house for him to play with or eat when all was said & done. But this was just really cool!
After OT we were starving & went to Steak-n-Shake & sat at the counter. While waiting for our food to arrive Teddy admired the lovely plastic deserts in the display case near the counter. He decided he wanted a brownie fudge sundae, so I said he could if he ate all his chicken strips & fries. Well, he ate it all very quickly & so started in on his sundae with gusto. After a few bites a little boy walked up to us & said, "Hi Teddy!". It was a boy from his class, a really friendly kid who's known Teddy for the past 2 years. He talked with Ted about the Easter party that day & what they'd found in their eggs (I prompted Teddy a little, but he did great!). Then when the boy had to go sit down Teddy said, "Have a great spring break!". He's so amazing! He is advancing all the time, it's just hard to see when you're up so close.
